Hometown hero and New England Patriot's offensive guard was on hand Saturday afternoon outside of Visions on 7th Street to greet fans and sign autographs.
At 6'1" and 310 pounds, Shaq played on the offensive line in Super Bowl LI, which was led by famed quarterback Tom Brady. The Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons, meaning Shaq gained his first Super Bowl win and ring. Not bad for a 23 year old!
Shaq grew up in Columbia where he graduated from Central High School. He played at Georgia Tech from 2011-2014 before being drafted by the Patriots.
Quick with a smile and possessing a gentle disposition, Shaq took the time to pose for photos, sign autographs and chat with children. It was easy to see that he enjoyed being a part of his community as much as they were excited to see him.
"I just love everything about Columbia. It made me who I am today," Shaq said. "I love the support that the whole city gives me, and I just want to show my appreciation to them for all the love and effort they put into me."
And, as for his Super Bowl ring, he says that they are still in the process of being made, but yes he did win his first ring and it is coming!
Thanks Shaq for giving back to your community with a smile on your face.
