Approximately 230 hunters, sportsmen, businesses and outdoors men turned out for the Duck River Chapter Sportsman's Banquet and Auction for a full house Tuesday evening, Nov. 22nd. The event raises money for Ducks Unlimited, with this year's event looking like it is going to net close to $50,000, which is $10,000 more than last year.
Duck River Chapter of Ducks Unlimited puts on the annual dinner and auction, which is headed up by Devin Gilliam, Jerry Sweeney and Stephanie Webber... "with the help of our volunteers and great sponsors," adds Webber, who chairs the event. This year's presenting sponsor included Dr. Gibran Naddy, Davis Hardwood Flooring, and McCanless Trucking. Mt. Pleasant Grille catered the dinner.
The auction items included several trips, including a bow fishing trip, a dove hunting trip to Argentina, and a pheasant hunting trip. Helm's Jewelry donated a beautiful gold and diamond Vahan bracelet. Several guns and framed prints were auctioned off, as well as collector decoys. Luke Bryan provided a signed CD. Alan Blevins was the winner of the Dream Gun raffle.
A Kubota RTV will be raffled in the spring at an event to be announced.
Charlie Lowery, the Regional Director for Ducks Unlimited, spoke about the legacy giving program and how to become a lifetime sponsor. He also noted that the local chapter received the Gold Excellence award at last year's state convention due to its success from last year's banquet.
In conclusion, Webber told us, "While we finish wrapping up and getting our final numbers, this year's event has already proved to be our best one yet. We are so appreciative of each of our sponsors, for we could not have done this without them.
I also appreciate the help from our committee of volunteers who helped make everything come together perfectly. Several new people have stepped up to help out, and it has made all the difference in the world. I can't wait to see what our future holds!"
