This past Saturday, October 22, was a day full of family fun and local cooks battling to win “Best Chili” in our beautiful Columbia. It was a sunny and chilly day where hundreds of people came out to support a cause while enjoying amazing food. The event was held at the historic site, Elm Springs, off of Mooresville Pike. It was the perfect family event to attend.
Although the event was sponsored by several different companies and organizations, it was mainly organized by Kiwanis Club of Columbia. This Chili Cook-off was one of the major fundraisers for the Junior Auxiliary of Columbia. It had a great turn out which meant a good cause was supported.
While the chili was amazing and kept everyone warm, the environment deserves just as much recognition. Children enjoyed inflatables, a petting zoo, face painting and balloon stands. While parents watched and socialized. When the event was finished, the people’s choice award for “Best Chili” was given to the Maury County Sheriff’s Department, which was one out of eight teams whom participated. All in all, the people of Columbia were content with the outcome and so were all who put such hard work into making it happen. We can’t wait for next year.
