For two days the square on Mt Pleasant was bustling with all things barbecue. This annual two day event included an array of fun activities for the family. Friday as the pit masters set up, classic cars filled the square as Box of Rocks played on the main stage.
Saturday saw a full day of events with the Scarecrow 5k in the morning followed by a children's costume contest and parade, and live music by Ryan Daniel.
A kid zone was created to entertain the kids. Home Depot brought in a workshop to teach children how to make their signature tool boxes. Bubbles floated through the air as boys and girls roped steer and rode saddles.
The festival drew 27 teams to compete and sell their hard smoked recipes. Festival goes could enjoy the fruits of the pit boss' labors while checking out all the new businesses on Main Street. Mt Pleasant has seen a surge in small businesses downtown with new boutiques, dance studios, and the latest to announce a new location, Buckhead Coffee.
The Mid-South Festival was a booming success for Mt Pleasant and a huge undertaking for the many volunteers and organizers. The festival is held the 3rd weekend in October every year so make plans to attend in 2017!
