When it comes to experimenting with hair, most women will try anything. As fun as trying new things can be, there are a few things to note before diving in. Ginger Moon, from Ginger’s Salon and Spa Services is back today with her advice for optimum hair care!
A Little Dab Will Not Do You: The temptation to touch up in between salon visits is high, but there is a reason why your stylists schedules your regrowth touch up 4 or more weeks apart. When applying color, it is very important to only apply to the new growth(roots)! If you do not have room to apply color, then you are overlapping on previous color which will cause darker color and damage. When foiling the same is true! There needs to be enough regrowth to apply the lightener. If not, then there can be serious damage to the hair which will cause breakage.
Tell the Truth: If your hair is sun bleached with things like lemons and “Sun In”, then yes, your hair is compromised and needs to be handled as such. Always tell your stylist about any products you use that change the color of your hair.
Bored easily? Changing your hair color from light to dark to light again, although is fun, will take a toll on your hair. Hair is like a fabric, too many chemical process can compromise the integrity of the hair and cause damage and breakage!
Leave In Does Little: Think of leave-in conditioner as a fabric softener, it calms down frizz and protects it from heat, but lacks the small molecular base to penetrate the hair shaft for true conditioning. Ask your stylists what product is best for deep conditioner. They all have different qualities and he or she will know what is best for your own hair type.
Take a Break: Flat irons, round brushed blow dryers, when used improperly, can cause serious damage. Be aware of too much heat, tension or repetitive movement on the hair as it will actually melt the hair! Although the flat iron was designed to straighten and get rid of frizz, too much use will cause frizz all over again due to drying out the hair and damage from heat! Give your hair a break and allow it to air dry some days to keep heat damage to a minimum
Love the Hair You Wear: Healthy hair is what the stylists strives for. At least I do, and when a stylist cautions the client on these or any other things it is wise to listen. They have the client’s best interest at heart!
