It's time to combat the relentless summer heat and humidity, and there are two ways you can do it. If you want to test your creative skills and share them with the community, then the first option is to put together your best recipe for homemade ice cream. The second option is a bit easier - just show up to taste the entries and vote for your favorite.
But don't dally, especially if you want to compete. The Columbia’s Children’s Museum, aMuse'um, is holding its 3rd annual Ice Cream Crankin' event on August 14, between 4:00 and 5:30 in the Farmers Market Pavilion at Riverside Park. The event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit where participants bring their best homemade ice cream and compete for bragging rights.
aMuse’um and Baskin-Robbins are collaborating for the first time on this year’s event. The museum’s executive director Lance Westbrooks said, “We are so excited to have Baskin-Robbins as our title sponsor this year. They’ve been serving ice cream to the Columbia community for such a long time that we felt like it was a natural partnership.”
This year’s event will include live bluegrass music, a balloon artist for the kids and a fire engine from the Columbia Fire Department for kids to explore. Also, children can enter the competition by drawing their best ice cream cone. The child with the best drawing from each age bracket (0-4, 5-8, and 9-12) will win a gift card from Baskin-Robbins and will have their picture displayed at the museum.
If you are ready to compete, you can register now by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 931-223-6337 before August 8. The registration fee is $10 per team. Those that don’t want to compete, but still want to participate can pay $5 help to determine who the winner is by tasting the ice cream and voting with their tasting spoon.
