Get ready and get your tickets fast because the 6th Annual Red Shoe BBQ and Bluegrass Benefit for CASA of Maury County is this Saturday, April 9th at the Mt. Pleasant Grille at 6 P.M.
Verlon Thompson (pictured above) was the artist for the first Red Shoe event five years ago and was such a hit that he was the featured performer the following year. He has been a great supporter of the event and of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
During his 30 years as a songwriter and touring troubadour and as trusted sidekick to Texas Americana icon Guy Clark, Verlon has performed from stages everywhere from Barcelona to Binger (his hometown in Oklahoma).
His songs have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett, Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Trisha Yearwood, and many others. He has produced numerous recordings, as well as scoring themes and background music for documentaries and film projects with his wife Demetria Kalodimos.
Local favorite, the Annual Bluegrass Band will also be appearing. "We are excited that Verlon will be returning," said Dr. Bob Thompson. "Verlon is not only one of the finest musicians and entertainers I have ever seen but one of the nicest people as well. It is an honor for us to be a part of his performance."
Tickets are available for purchase by calling the CASA office at (931) 381-4733 and from CASA Board Members. Individual tickets are $75 and all proceeds benefit the mission of CASA. CASA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and United Way-funded agency that receives funding from grants and is primarily supported by community fundraising and donations. About CASA CASA volunteers are Court Appointed Special Advocates for children; they are trained community volunteers appointed by a judge to speak for abused and neglected children in court. CASA's goal is to expedite the process through which these abused and neglected children are found permanent, safe homes. The advocate's in-depth knowledge of the case provides the judge with the information necessary to make tough decisions. The volunteer helps ensure the child makes it to a safe permanent home.
