The first time Wil and Katie Evans met in Chattanooga, TN, admittedly, sparks did not fly. It would be another year before the two saw one another at a cookout and decided to give it another try. Katie knew after that second meeting that there was something special between them, but a job she had recently accepted 8 hours away in Destin, FL was about to pull them apart again. This time though, they knew not to let go. Wil and Katie dated long distance for a year before another opportunity, this time for Wil, would put them on a new adventure.
A year into dating Wil accepted a job with Columbia organization, Maury Alliance, and a move to Muletown was in the works. Katie and Wil decided to move to Columbia together and set about packing up Katie’s home in Destin for the move. At the end of a long day of packing the two headed to the beach to watch the sunset and that’s here Wil dropped to one knee to ask four precious words “Will you marry me?”
Life in Columbia was new and exciting- a new town, new job, and newly engaged the couple set out to plan their wedding. Wil and Katie knew they wanted to have the wedding in Columbia, but being new to town they had no idea where to start.
As luck would have it, Wil attended a work function at Westbury House on the Square and was blown away by the beauty and details of the building. After meeting with owners, Julie and Sarah, the Evans knew Westbury House was the best option for their wedding. Julie and Sarah were warm and welcoming from the start and were able to lead the Evans through the wedding planning process with ease. With their extensive knowledge of vendors and relationships within the industry, Julie and Sarah helped create the reception of Katie’s dreams.
The idea was simple-create an evening full of fun and laughter that reflected Katie and Wil’s personalities and backgrounds. Classic white linens draped the tables as twinkle lights illuminated childhood photos of the newlyweds along one wall of the reception.
The newlyweds started the evening with a first dance to Dave Matthews Band “You and Me” - the refrain a tender promise of everything that was and could be:
We can always look back at what we did
All these memories of you and me baby
But right now it’s you and me forever girl
And you know we could do better than anything that we did
You know that you and me , we could do anything
Guests nibbled on salad and assorted fruit before sitting down to dine on a lavish buffet of pork tenderloin and chicken piccatta, served with a side of asparagus and corn casserole all prepared by Westbury House. Once the plates were cleared it was time to get everyone off their feet and on the dance floor. To keep things interesting, Wil and Katie brought in a karaoke machine for guests to belt their favorite tunes as well.
In between song sets the couple was able to sneak away to the photo booth created in the Westbury House original elevator. Sweet images captured by Simply M Photography show a couple both dashing and in love. The bride wore a strapless A-line gown from the Spoiled Lady while the groom stood dapper in his classic tuxedo.
At last it was time to cut the cake and bid farewell to their guests. The four tier wedding cake, from The Bake Shoppe in Nashville, was topped fittingly with a Willow Tree “Promise” figurine. As a nod to the groom’s Italian heritage the couple decided to forgo a groom’s cake and instead treat guests to an array of Italian wedding cookies.
Finally, after all the songs had been sung, dances danced, and well wishes embraced it was time to make their final exit in true upbeat form. Guests lined the street with sparklers as the couple danced out of Westbury House and into their new life as husband and wife to Michael Franti and the Spearhead’s “Hey, I Love You” echoing down Main Street, “But I know one thing, that I love you…I love you, I love you, I love you”.
