Opening day of duck season is just around the corner and what better way to kick it off than at the Duck River Annual Sportsman’s Dinner and Live Auction benefiting Duck’s Unlimited on Tuesday, November 10th. Local supporters of the Duck’s Unlimited waterfowl conservation efforts gathered for an evening of food, fellowship and fundraising at the Memorial Building.
Prior to dinner, guests browsed the endless table of auction items that included rustic artwork, decoys, tailgating items, and of course a wide range of shotguns. Mt Pleasant Grille brought in their famous bbq, brisket and fixings for everyone to enjoy as the evening events began.
Guests listened to Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Waterfowl Coordinator, Joe Benedict, insights on the upcoming season before event hosts launched into the live auction. Bid cards were waiving high as bidders tried to snag everything from a Red Ryder BB Gun for the little hunter in their lives to a grand trip for the most avid hunter and his buddies to Argentina.
The event was a great start to the 2015 hunting season and a wonderful way to give back to an organization where their main goal is habitat conservation. Duck’s Unlimited launched in 1937 and continues today with the support of local chapters, such as the Duck River, and individual supporters.
