It was a fortuitous night for Off the Duck when we met and photographed Cara Dane Smith at the Columbia Care's Beer Blast last spring. Little did we realize at the time that the picture would be the launching pad for hundreds more photos as Cara, soon after, joined our team to photograph events for Off the Duck.
A self-proclaimed "small town girl," Cara was born and raised in Columbia. When she's not pursing her photography, she works full time as a Pharmacy Technician, which she has done for the past 7 years. Cara is the mother of 18-year-old Jalen who is a freshman at Columbia State Community College.
Of her passion for taking pictures, she told us: "I have always loved photography, but it's when i realized that I could see more of life through a lens that I became a true photographer. I’ve gained a new found appreciation of a smile, a sunset and life itself with my camera."
Many of Cara's outstanding photographs can be seen in our Social Snaps photos, articles and on the Home page and Social Snaps sliders, which feature rotating photographs of various people and events around Maury County. A most recent example of her talented eye can be seen in yesterday's post "Let the Open Houses Begin!" Click HERE to see her photos.
When we asked her what she likes about Off the Duck, we were delighted by her response, which dovetails beatuifully with our website's raison d'etre.
"My favorite thing about Off The Duck is its celebration of everyday life and events in small town Columbia. Holly and Katie know what it is to capture the essence of our Mule Town. I'm so excited for the future of Off The Duck and proud to be part of the team!"
The feeling is mutual. Off the Duck is proud to have such a talented photographer on board who captures our philosophy and mission so perfectly in words and, especially, in such gorgeous images!
