Here comes the bride…..Off the Duck is thrilled to announce the beginning of a new series feature created with Westbury House on the Square! Wedding Wednesday presented by Westbury House on the Square will be a monthly series hosted the last Wednesday of every month that showcases brides and their weddings at the event venue located in Downtown Columbia. The series will allow brides to share the story of one of the most memorable days of their life along with all the beautiful photos captured throughout the day. Westbury House on the Square owners Julie Webster and Sarah Hoelscher are thrilled to be able showcase the stunning weddings they’ve hosted in their venue space, “Wedding Wednesday is a wonderful opportunity for the bride and groom to relive their special day, and for the community to share in the celebrations. We are also excited to showcase some of the amazing local vendors we work with and to highlight the growth of the wedding industry in Maury County.”
For the past four years Westbury House on the Square has been a trailblazer on the event venue scene in Maury County. Started in 2011 by mother daughter team Julie Webster and Sarah Hoelscher, Westbury House on the Square wasn’t just a pretty building they wanted to rent out, but a truly unique space for brides and event hosts to feel confident that their vision could be executed. Webster and Hoelscher use their expertise in party planning along with their charming ability to make strangers feel like the best of friends to craft lasting memories for hosts and their guests.
To kick start this series Off the Duck sat down for a little Q&A with Julie and Sarah to discuss what drives their passion for event planning, wedding planning tips, and of course the unique details that attracted them to Westbury House in the first place!
Westbury House on the Square offers onsite catering and day of coordination-Where did your love of event entertaining/cooking come from?
We had catered weddings for 6 years off site and had discussed building an event space. We were more than caterers, we wanted the whole event to be successful. We helped plan what we could in addition to the menu. We knew if we had our own space we could execute from start to beginning. Then it was a God thing- we were Downtown and peaked through the windows of the Westbury House building and thought this would be a great venue space. Every time we came downtown we kept coming back to this space and finally decided to take the leap.
What are your favorite parts about the event or wedding planning process?
Sarah- I love the creativity in the menu and décor. It’s also fun for me to run the front of the house. I really enjoy the interaction with our clients and their guests. This job is the perfect social outlet for me now that I am a stay-at-home to twins.
Julie- I enjoy building a relationship with our clients on the front end. It’s important to hear the bride and groom’s story and get to know them so that we can bring their ideas to life. It’s always fun for me to give tours of the space and see their excitement about what we can accomplish. We’re here to put the brides, their family and the wedding party at ease while planning from start to finish.
Sarah- When we spend as much time as we do with our clients and are a part of something so big in their lives, it has allowed us to build lasting relationships with our community.
What was the event landscape like 4 years ago in Maury County?
It has changed dramatically as we were the first privately owned wedding venue available. We took a lot of pride in being Downtown so we were at the cusp of the revival down here. All of our initial decisions for the building and venue options our clients have appreciated. We invested in rentals to make it easy for our brides to come to one place for everything, and we made sure to choose high end pieces that they would appreciate. We care about our brides, and we want it to be amazing from the drapes hanging, to the window seats in the front, to the tables and chairs they will use as a backdrop to their décor.
What’s the number one thing brides are looking for in a wedding venue?
They are trying to get a feel for what their big day will be, and we always encourage them to go with a space that feels right to them. We’ve heard over and over again how much they love that we take care of everything from the cake cutting to making sure their timeline of the day is on schedule. Once a wedding starts it’s seamless with us.
What is your favorite detail about the Westbury House?
Sarah- The brick wall! When we originally came in it was covered in paneling and plaster. We didn’t know it was there until we started renovations. It took us two days to expose the wall, polish and seal it. Now it’s the back drop for a lot of our wedding ceremonies.
Julie-The original elevator is so cool with the chandelier inside. Brides love to use it for prop photos and personal pictures! I also love loft space with modular furniture. You can stand up there and get a birds-eye view of the whole event and see how beautifully it all comes together.
Do you have a memorable wedding or detail from a past wedding?
Sarah- So many! Since it’s fall I remember one wedding that had stunning centerpieces made out if fresh fruit- pears, apples etc. On the back of each chair were brown bags for the guests to take home the fruit as a favor.
Julie- I have two that stand out. One was a groom that was a fireman. He had proposed in the lift of a firetruck so that’s how they arrived to the ceremony. Another one was a bride and groom who were both pilots so their send-off were airplanes instead of rice.
Any advice for a bride looking for a venue or for her big day?
Julie- Number one- Enjoy the Process. Choose the type of wedding you want and find a venue that can meet your needs.
Sarah- A bride wants to make a memory that will resonate with her and her guests. Find vendors that have experience and a good track record of seamless events.
Thank you to Sarah and Julie for spending the past few months working with Off the Duck on this exciting new feature! We can’t wait to work with your brides to retell the story of their day and share their memories with our community.Tune in Wednesday, November 25th as we introduce our first bride!!
