Well wishes are pouring through the door at Itty Bitty Children’s Boutique since Blair Hickman announced she has taken over as the sole proprietor of the shop she previously co-owned with Nicole Houser. The two partners successfully ran the local boutique as a team for three years. Now, Hickman is excited to launch into a solo venture.
“It is an absolute dream come true, “says Hickman in between greeting shoppers, wrapping gifts and answering calls from customers. Hickman’s cheery voice will greet you more often as she plans to be in the store almost daily to interact and work with customers to craft a boutique that meets their shopping needs.
Since going solo, Blair has wasted no time in revamping the shop – repainting rooms, changing vignettes and adding more clothing collections. She is also in the process of adding more baby clothes and gifts, as well as bringing in additional lower price point clothing lines. Hickman understands the need for versatile clothing that can be worn to Sunday school, church, parties and daycare.
The Itty Bitty brand has grown steadily into one of the premier boutiques for classic children’s clothes, toys and newborn necessities.
Expectant mothers can create registries from brands like Kissy Kissy, Mustard Pie, Luli & Me, and Sweet Baby clothing lines. Colorful blankets by Swaddle Designs and Little Giraffe hang waiting to be taken home to snuggle newborns, while tables brimming with Chewbeads, Noodle and Boo Skin Care, and Salisbury Pewter round out the gift items. The boutique also features paintings by local artist Terri Ross and seasonal hand-crafted décor by Hickman’s husband Andrew for an even more unique shopping experience.
Itty Bitty builds lasting relationships with families by offering clothing sizes for preschool girls and boys, including Funtasia, Banana Split, and the local line Flit and Flitter. Hickman carries a range of adolescent girl’s sizes and plans to expand the boy’s line further.
Four times a year Hickman will head to market ready to pick out the not just the most adorable lines, but the practical ones as well.
As a mother of an almost four-year-old daughter, Parkes, she knows how much clothing durability matters. “I test every new brand for stains before ordering. If someone asks for my help they are trusting me to sell really well-made items,” she said. Parkes is her clothing line tester and can be seen frequently on their Instagram account as the quintessential Itty Bitty model.
In addition to clothes, Itty Bitty hosts monthly events at the boutique. Hickman plans to continue Mac Brown beach and holiday photo sessions, and most recently hosted a book reading and signing of The Most by Anna McCoy.
The holidays will bring back the boutique’s annual Cookies with Santa, and children are invited to drop off their wish lists in the North Pole Mailbox for Itty Bitty to send to Santa.
Ladies will have their own shopping event when Itty Bitty partners up with Ye Peddler and Lily Jane for their “Holiday Ladies Night Out” this Christmas. Shoppers can meander from store to store enjoying drinks, appetizers and desserts while checking off their family’s wish lists.
Anyone who has shopped in the store is keenly aware of the boutique’s outstanding, friendly customer service. In fact, it’s hardly a stretch to say that if you didn’t know Blair before you came in, you will leave feeling as if you’ve known her your whole life.
