More than 250 people turned out on a hot day to sample and vote on their favorite ice cream last Sunday at aMuse'um's second annual Ice Cream Crankin'.
Twelve contestants brought their cold goods to the Columbia Children's Museum's ice cream social, which was held downtown at the Farmers' Market Pavilion on the River Walk. Contestants ranged from families and couples, to the Mount Pleasant Grille. Even the Columbia Firefighters got into the mix, serving "Frosty" samples in front of their hook n' ladder truck.
Participants sampled with their palate but voted with their spoons. The ultimate winner was the Harris family who took both the first and second place awards for their peach flavor and butter pecan ice creams , with third place going to Rocky Rolling Fields Ice Cream. The Harris family can clearly crank some good ice cream as they also took home the award last year.
One of the museum's founders, April Grippo, introduced and announced the children's museum's new executive director, Katie Evans, who started the position three weeks ago. Outgoing director Sara Evans was presented at the event with a crystal plaque as a thank you and going away gift from the board of directors.
The event raised $1350 for the children's museum, which is a nonprofit organization located on the square Downtown at 123 W 7th Street, Columbia, TN. For more info on aMuse'um and their upcoming events follow them on Facebook HERE.
