It was a summer evening full of nostalgia Friday night at Riverwalk Park as Merchants of COOL serenaded guests. Songs such as “Someone to Watch Over Me”, “ Moondance” and the always classic, “Fly Me to the Moon” wafted through the air as toes tapped and local dance instructors Jim Dooley and Mickie Dehaven swirled across the dance floor.
The evening was part of a Free Summer Concerts and Movies in the Park series presented by Columbia Parks and Recreation. Each week a free movie or concert is held in Riverwalk Park, Woodland Park, or Fairview Park. The fourth Friday of the month Merchants of COOL play swing, big band, waltz, and cha-cha music while Dooley and Dehaven teach dance. No worries if you have two left feet, guests can bring lawn chairs and refreshments to relax and enjoy. The final Merchants of COOL concert will be Friday, July 24th from 6-8pm at the Farmer’s Market Shelter in Riverwalk Park.
If you can’t make it July 24th, Merchants of COOL play at the American Legion Post 19 on the second Friday of every even month. For more information on the Free Summer Concert Series check out our Calendar Tab or call Columbia Parks and Recreation at 931-388-8119.
