People say Summer Songwriters Night is one of Maury County’s best-kept secrets, and some might argue that it applies to the whole of Middle Tennessee. So what exactly makes it so special? Is it the legendary musicians, the backstage pre-event to meet the singer/songwriters, the historic setting or the starlit supper?
Let’s break it down because this 10th annual event is fast approaching: next Saturday evening, June 6.
The Musicians and Their Music
First credit, of course, goes to the singer/songwriter lineup, which this year features Andy Childs, who formed the group SIXWIRE that took second place in American Idol’s American Band show and has opened for the likes of Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Clint Black, Tricia Yearwood, Tanya Tucker, the Charlie Daniels Band and more.
Also performing at Summer Songwriters Night are songwriters Kelley Lovelace and Rivers Rutherford. Lovelace is mainly known for his work with Brad Paisley, having written several of his number-one hits, including “He Didn’t Have to Be” and “Ticks.”
River Rutherfords sang with the likes of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Among his many number-one songwriting hits was the number-one song of the year “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You,” performed by Brooks & Dunn.
The Setting and Supper
In addition to the great musician/songwriter lineup, what makes the evening particularly special is its intimate setting at historic Antrim, just three miles south of Columbia. Built in 1810, the beautiful home was recently renovated and opened for weddings and events. The backstage pre-party will take place around the pool house, and the concert will be held in “Peggy’s Field.” To see more photos and read about the history of Antrim, go to antrimcelebrations.com.
